iPort DCS is a role based system. This means that users have their own user ID, password and profile. To manage all these users, iPort Core features an extensive identity management tool. Also the AHM database is managed in an innovative way. Customers are no longer dependent on their DCS supplier for the input of AHM data, as they have direct access to the online database and their own set of data. Further useful features include the online management information reporting tool, flight messaging, and flight control with its smart flight monitor tool.

iPort DCS - Customer Services

iPort Customer is the module that is used at airport check-in counters, where all users automatically see all active flights for their airport. From there on, the user dialogue is almost completely self explanatory. Select a flight, select passengers (type along functionality) and fill in the relevant fields. API and PSS data will automatically be requested if applicable. Boarding, standby handling and all other functions are one tab away. The application supports both a mouse driven interface as well as short cut keys.

FLIGHT SERVICES

Using smart concepts such as My Assigned Flights, the Flight Header and a W&B overview in combination with Flight Monitor allows a load controller to easily handle multiple flights simultaneously. Distributing load is a matter of 'click & drop'. If a flight requires attention, an alert will pop up in the My flights list. Loadsheets can be printed or sent via ACARS, telex or e-mail. Passenger data is automatically imported from the passenger handling module. Load control has never been easier.

SELF SERVICE

iPort DCS - Self Service

All components of the iPort Departure Control Suite share the same central software and database elements. This allows them to work seamlessly via all access channels. Since there is only one single point of truth for all iPort components, there is no need for synchronisation.

  • Web check-in

Web check-in helps an airline to reduce the strain and costs of airport handling. Every airline customer can use the iPort DCS web check-in facilities by framing in the iPort web pages in their website or to redirect to a separate web page to provide full transparancy to the traveller. The airline's logos and styles can be used to blend in with the airline website. Boarding passes can be sent to various devices: printer, mobile phone or Apple's passbook. Travellers can change their own seats and API data can be completed in advance.

  • Kiosk

Specific software is developed to connect iPort DCS via IATA based CUSS kiosks. iPort CUSS is available on all CUSS kiosks that adhere to the IATA CUSS standards. The iPort CUSS application is web based and deployment is quick and simple. Passengers can select their seats, check in and print boarding passes and bag tags via an easy-to-use interface.

  • Bag drop

Travellers can check-in their baggage at an automated baggage drop off point. Baggage limits are stored in one central place and can be updated online by the customer.

 

iSALES

iPort DCS is unique in offering an ancillary sales component that is fully integrated throughout all channels. Airport desk, web check-in, bagdrop and kiosk all run through the same central component, creating a consistent view for the traveller that allows sales of various items. The control over the type of items, pricing and other parameters can be fully managed by the airline. Prices can be differentiated by various criteria, such as route, sales channel, passenger type and more.

TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP

The usual charging structure applied by traditional DCS providers is based on a bottomline price per passenger. In addition to that cost, there are charges that may not always be controllable and predictable, such as teletype messaging costs. Or additional fees are required for automated boarding, e-ticketing and IATCI. Essential processes that - according to us - should be part of basic passenger handling fees. Comparing price per boarded passenger therefore is not always easy. It can be like comparing apples and oranges.

The following features allow us to provide the lowest TCO possible

Connectivity and installation

Connecting an airport on the iPort DCS network is simple and straightforward. A matter of defining 2 IP addresses and port numbers in the local firewall. An internet connection also suffices. iPort DCS customers at one airport benefit from the community model that allows sharing those connectivity costs.

Continuous deployment

Only one client application exists. iPort DCS is very versatile, adapts itself to its environment and only requires one, initial installation. New functionality is published in small, digestible portions every 3 weeks. This limits the amount of time and cost required for maintaining various versions of the application.

e-Ticketing and IATCI included

Thanks to the close cooperation with Travelport, the iPort DCS deal includes free connectivity for e-ticketing and IATCI. The majority of reservation systems and DCSs are already connected with our ETKT and IATCI hubs. Additional airlines/systems can be connected against relatively low costs. 

One back-end logic for all channels

Software development costs are limited due to re-use of components. Counter, web and kiosk channels all use the same underlying components. Distinction is made only at the presentation level.

Messaging

Outgoing teletype messages are included in the package. This is a component that is otherwise unpredictable, and often comes as an unpleasant surprise. In addition, iPort DCS provides the option to send IATA messages via email. The message router component supports a mix of teletype and e-mail addresses.

Training

User training is considerably reduced thanks to iPort DCS's intuitive user interface. Seasonal workers can be used to bridge busy periods like the holiday season.

Passenger self service

Web check-in, kiosk, ancillary sales and bagdrop connection are also available via iPort DCS. These  are services that usually need to be built and maintained by an airline itself or a third party provider, which increases costs. By providing these services via a community model, costs for our customers are noteably reduced.

 

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

AIRPORT IT PLATFORMS

The iPort DCS application is certified for all major airport common use platforms, i.e.:

iPort DCS is also supported in a non-common-use environment.

 

The implementation at an airport is extremely easy. All that needs to be installed is the iPort DCS container package. The application will determine which perpiheral devices are connected (scanners & printers) and connect automatically, regardless of the nature of an airport's infrastructure. Truly plug and play. Once the firewalls are configured to allow access to the iPort web and printer servers, the application is ready for use.

AIRPORT CONNECTIVITY

iPort DCS can be connected with an airport via:

  • Closed circuit connections (SITA, Arinc or any other supplier) with a local router at the airport and a dedicated router in Res2's data center in Atlanta; or

  • Internet access (WiFi, Ethernet, mobile 3G...); or

  • A dedicated router, possibly combined with a VPN connection

Res2 offers its customers assistance in arranging network connectivity to the airports, no matter what the connection type is. The application only requires a limited bandwith. Multiple users can easily share a single 256kbps link.

OPERATING SYSTEM

 

The application can run on all devices with a Windows operating system, starting from Windows NT up to Windows 8. This means the application can easily run on PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones. As soon as there is a form of connection (e.g. 3G), the user can access the system and live data.

 

REMOTE CHECK-IN

Combining the application on a mobile device with portable peripherals (plug-and-play boarding pass & bag tag printers, passport scanners and barcode readers via USB), the system can easily be used for hotel, cruise or other forms of remote check-in.

 

CUSTOMER DATA

Most of the customer data can be managed by the customer itself. Think about routing tables for post-departure messaging, flight schedules, user IDs and so on. Furthermore, Res2 makes sure that all required passenger and flight data is shared with the customer. This includes check-in times, seat changes, bag tag numbers, sales information and many more.

 

TRAINING

When rolling out a new aiport/handler, Res2 provides a detailed Train-The-Trainer course for the handler's trainers and/or supervisors. In their turn, they will then convey what they have learned to their co-workers.

 

The training is split into 3 parts, each part covering 1 day:

  • Core Services: creating a flight, adding a user, manage the routing table...

  • Customer Services: all functionality related to check-in and boarding

  • Flight Services: all functionality related to load control

The intuitive iPort DCS graphical user interface is easy to learn. Hence training time and costs are comparatively low. Our experience shows that a end-user can be trained in:

  • 4 hours as a check-in agent (Customer Services)

  • 4 hours as a load controller (Flight Services)

Training can be conducted on site or at the Res2 offices in De Meern, the Netherlands.
